RESEARCH
During his residency and fellowship Dr. Nicolay conducted clinical, radiological, biomechanical and database studies focused on quantifying patient outcomes after surgery and identifying risk factors for poor outcomes in order to improve the safety and efficacy of surgical procedures. His work on the rotator cuff and co-authorship on a manuscript correlating x-ray findings with rotator cuff tears was awarded the first-place overall research poster award at the 2022 American Academy for Orthopedic Surgeons Annual meeting.
His current research focus is clinical, measuring patients' outcomes after surgery to identify the best, safest and most efficient treatment methods. He currently serves as a reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine, Orthopedic Journal of Sports Medicine, Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, and he is a member of the editorial board for the Arthroscopy Journal.
